The Euphrates-Tigris River Basin is shared, inter-alia, by Turkey, Syria and Iraq. Conflicts among riparian states have taken place over past centuries. There is concern that increasing demand for water in these countries may lead to further conflicts. In Iraq, the conservation and sustainable management of water resources and the related environment are identified as priorities for the reconstruction of the country. In this open event, researchers and practitioners in Japan and from abroad will express their views, regarding the existing state of water and environment in the Euphrates-Tigris River Basin as well as prospects for future.
